New Director Named for School of Practical Nursing
Tammy Dean, RN, MSN, an instructor for the Prince William County School of Practical Nursing, has been named Director of the school. She succeeds Charlene Morrow, RNC, BSN, who retired after a long and distinguished nursing career, serving the last 10 years as Director. Dean, who has been a nurse for nearly 25 years, has taught the practical nursing II and III course at the Prince William School of Practical Nursing for eight years.
“Mrs. Dean will continue to build on the outstanding program that we now have,” said David Eshelman, supervisor of the Prince William County Public Schools career and technical education curriculum. “She has assisted in organizing and implementing the practical nurse mentorship program and actively recruited our nursing staff,” he said, noting that Dean has extensive experience as a registered nurse and is a leader in curriculum development.
Dean’s career as a nurse has taken her to major hospitals in New York, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, and Alabama. From 1999–2002 Dean was the nurse for Bitburg Elementary School, a Department of Defense School in Germany. As a registered nurse in the United States Air Force Reserve since 1992, Dean has served as a labor and delivery and pediatric nurse at Bitburg, Maxwell, and Bolling Air Force Bases. She also was a case management program manager for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon.
A graduate of the Otsego Area Occupational School of Nursing where she earned her licensed practical nursing degree, Dean earned an AAS degree in nursing at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York. She holds a Registered Nurse-Master of Science in Nursing degree from St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine.
Dean is licensed by the Virginia State Board of Nursing, with certifications in advanced cardiac life support and neonatal resuscitation. In addition, she has a Virginia State Board of Education Teaching Certificate. She is a network speaker for the March of Dimes and a Sigma Theta Tau international member.
